When Canadian producer Troy Beetles saw Excision play at Shambhala Music Festival 2008, he had no idea it would kickstart the dubstep dinosaur dwelling within.
Immediately developing his self-described “dark and robotic” sound, Datsik was collaborating with the very artist who inspired him within a year and the two showed the EDM world some serious “Swagga.”
Born in 1988 in Kelowna, British Columbia, Datsik takes his name from his old XBOX Live Gamertag. He cranked out several #1 tracks on the Beatport charts in 2009 including collaborations with 12th Planet and Flux Pavilion. His musical influences include Wu-Tang Clan members RZA and Method Man, giving his dark, robotic feel a measurable amount of what he calls “funky gangster.”
His first full album Vitamin D was released April 2012 on Dim Mak Records, and featured tracks with Downlink, Infected Mushroom, and more. He also opened his own label the same year, Firepower Records.
