Born Jeff Abel in 1986, Excision became part of a dubstep tidal wave that swept across the US in 2007. He influenced and inspired artists like Datsik and Downlink, who immediately joined him in leading the West Coast dubstep movement.
His aggressive brand of bass music helped usher in a new era of popularity for the English-born genre known for having a smoother feel than its North American counterpart. He’s most known for his robotic, bass-laden dubstep anthems, however he has been known to mess around in the drum & bass and jungle realms as well.
In 2007, Abel founded Rottun Recordings and began to pump out punishing tracks and collaborations with fellow Canadian dubstep producers like Downlink, also signed to Rottun. He is a regular at the earthshaking Shambhala Music Festival in British Columbia, for which he creates a compilation for yearly. His sets have been free to download since 2008, allowing them to grace the ears of millions of dubstep fans worldwide.
His first full-length album, X-Rated, was released on Mau5Trap records in September of 2011. The album was well-received and praised for its ingenuity as an expansion upon the face-melting dubstep sound he’s become synonymous with.
