Having grown up in the Netherlands, Laidback Luke (otherwise known as Lucas Cornelis van Scheppingen) came into DJing after trying out several careers. He was a grafitti artist and also marketed an electro-themed health supplement product line called iBeefer — a reference to his favorite vacation spot. But the artist sprang onto the scene with a force unheard of once he got there.
After releasing his first studio album in 1998, Luke went on to make amazing collaborations with artists such as David Guetta, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and more. He dropped his second full length album in 2002 with an obviously successful outcome, and began to DJ and produce with artists across Europe and North America. He released Windmill Skill, his first successful mix album the following year and began to focus on touring his DJ act across Western Europe while releasing occasional mixes. In recent years, he’s also collaboratorated with Diplo, A-Trak, Example, and Steve Aoki.
Laidback Luke is also noted for having proposed aboard Holy Ship! on its maiden voyage and is now happily married to Gina Turner, who he’s also collaborated with. Yet again, Lucas is an incredibly talented artist with a multifaceted approach to making amazing hyper-house-thumpin-ghetto-jack-bass that will be a mainstay for years to come.
