If you get the chance to meet Hugo Leclercq, don’t ask him his age. He’s likely to answer your question with another: How do you feel about music synthesizing algorithms that can express emotion in dance? He then trots off with a smile and a handful of his own custom-made M&Ms while you scratch your head wondering what just happened.
Madeon was born Hugo Pierre Leclercq in 1994 in Nantes, France and gained overnight recognition for his remix of Pendulum’s “The Island,” and went on to remix many other famous tracks.
His rep was cemented worldwide when he released a YouTube video of a 39-song mashup he put together on-the-fly called “Pop Culture” using a Novation Launchpad, his current weapon of choice.
His live recorded performance debut was for Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 gala event in Hull, MA in 2012, where he played a 20-minute set.
Today, Madeon is known for his remixes of “Raise your Weapon” by Deadmau5 and “The Night Out” by Martin Solveig, in addition to his extremely energetic and fine-tuned live performances using his Launchpad. He has since played with artists as large as Skrillex and Porter Robinson, with whom Madeon has been friends for many years.
