Big news from the OWSLA camp: their recently-launched subscription service The Nest has just released a brand-spanking-new EP from label head Skrillex, entitled Leaving.
The EP found its way to the internet yesterday with little fanfare or pre-release hype. Says Sonny: “The fact that we have a direct way to give you guys content without any of the red tape that the normal distribution mediums have makes it really easy fun for us and gives us a new platform to be creative and spontaneous.”
“Scary Bolly Dub” has been part of Skrillex’s live set for awhile, but this is its first official release. Title track “Leaving” occupies that same murky garage underworld that birthed dubstep icon Burial, while opener “The Reason” was supposedly finished just an hour before release. Talk about exclusive!
You’ll have to subscribe to The Nest in order to download the tunes, but you can stream them for free on Skrillex’s YouTube channel.
The DJZ/10 is a collection of ten DJs that we think you should know about now. Some of them are already familiar to you, others you may have never heard of. The list is not based on (1) a secret computer algorithm, (2) social media popularity, or (3) payola. Every month or so we get together to decide if somebody from the broader A…Z directory is about to break out and should be included in the DJZ/10, or if somebody already on the list, for that matter, is “phoning it in” and deserved to be replaced by another DJ who is more worthy.
